Six Huskies Selected In 2025 MLB Draft

BOSTON – A program record five members of the Northeastern University baseball team, and one 2025-26 commit, were selected in the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday afternoon and evening. Members of the 2025 team include left-hander Jordan Gottesman, outfielder Cam Maldonado, shortstop Jack Goodman, and right-handed pitchers Cooper McGrath and Aiven Cabral, while incoming recruit Landon Manzi, another right-handed pitcher, was selected in the 14th round.

The 63rd draft pick in program history, Jordan Gottesman was selected in the sixth round, with the 176th overall pick, by the San Francisco Giants. Gottesman transferred to Northeastern for the 2025 season after a four year career at Endicott College. Gottesman was taken in the sixth round with the 176th overall pick by the Giants. Seamlessly transitioning into the Northeastern rotation, Gottesman put up a 2.27 ERA in 83.1 innings of work with a 9-2 record in 12 starts. He earned All-Conference, All-Tournament, and All-American status in 2025. He's the highest-drafted Husky pitcher in the 2020s, higher than 2022's Cam Schlittler and 2024's Dennis Colleran.

The new program leader in career stolen bases and single-season runs, Cam Maldonado was drafted in the seventh round with the 206th overall pick by San Francisco. Maldonado put up career numbers in draft year, setting new career highs in hits, RBIs, and runs scored, and tying his career high in batting average. Maldonado earned All-Conference honors for the second time in his career, and was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Northeast First Team. He's the second-highest drafted position player in the last nine years, following behind Mike Sirota's 87th overall selection in 2024.

Hearing his name in the 13th round was shortstop Jack Goodman, going to the Detroit Tigers with the 399th overall pick. Goodman was a consistent bat in the heart of the Northeastern batting order in 2025, slashing .335/.547/.406, and holding his own at the shortstop position with a .967 fielding percentage. It's Goodman's second career MLB Draft selection, after he was drafted out of high school in the 2022 MLB Entry Level draft in the 15th round.

A pair of rightys were picked in the 18th round – Cooper McGrath was selected 536th overall by the San Francisco Giants, and Aiven Cabral was taken just 11 picks later at 547 by the Atlanta Braves. McGrath, a 2024 transfer from Trinity, provided 21.2 strong innings out of the bullpen in 2025 with a 1.66 ERA, one save, and a 1-0 record. On the other end of the pitching staff, Cabral put up one of his best collegiate seasons with a 10-3 record in 16 starts, with a 2.92 ERA and 74 strikeouts to just 14 walks.

Along with the five members of the 2025 team that were selected, one Husky commit for the 2025-26 academic year was also selected: incoming freshman, right-handed pitcher Landon Manzi, was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 14th round, 415th overall. Manzi, from Dayville, Conn. and Killingly High School, currently plays summer ball for the Norwich Sea Unicorns in the FCBL, where he has seven strikeouts in 8.0 innings of work.

The 2025 MLB Draft sets a new program record for current Huskies selected at five, and total selections at six, as the program had four selections in 2021, 2019, 2011, and 2006.
