DURHAM, N.H. – Goaltender
Lawton Zacher stopped all 26 shots he faced while junior
Dylan Hryckowian and freshman
Jacob Mathieu each recorded two points to lead the Northeastern men's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over New Hampshire on Friday night at Whittemore Center.
The Huskies struck first at 8:22 of the opening period when freshman
Amine Hajibi and junior
Matthew Perkins executed a crisp tic-tac-toe passing sequence, setting up sophomore
Griffin Erdman for his third goal of the season and a 1-0 advantage.
Hryckowian extended the lead to 2-0 with the middle frame's only goal, converting a give-and-go with Mathieu into his team-leading 12th tally of the season. Mathieu's shot from the right side bounced perfectly off the end boards, allowing Hryckowian to bury the rebound on the back post.
Mathieu added his second point of the night 7:18 into the third period, deflecting freshman
Dylan Compton's point shot past the goaltender for a 3-0 lead. Senior
Vinny Borgesi earned the secondary assist on the play.
Junior
Andy Moore capped the scoring late in the period with his second goal of the season. Sophomore
Joe Connor initiated the sequence along the boards before Hryckowian attempted a wraparound, with Moore cleaning up the deflection for the 4-0 final.
Zacher turned aside all 26 shots in a complete-game effort, recording his NCAA-leading fourth shutout of the season.
The Huskies conclude their weekend series with New Hampshire on Sunday (Jan. 18) at 4 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
