WEST POINT, N.Y. - The No. 12 Northeastern men's hockey team dropped their first game of the new year, falling to the Army Black Knights, 5-2, on Friday night.
Junior
Dylan Hryckowian opened scoring with 1:20 remaining in the first period, firing home his tenth goal of the season. The freshman duo of
Giacomo Martino and
Jacob Mathieu worked hard to keep the puck in the offensive zone, creating the lane for Hryckowian's strike.
The Huskies extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second period on the power play. Excellent perimeter movement from senior
Vinny Borgesi and Hryckowian freed up sophomore
Joe Connor for a one-timer on the glove side for his seventh of the year.
The Black Knights responded with five unanswered goals to secure the 5-2 victory.
Goaltender
Lawton Zacher finished with 34 saves in 57:10 minutes of action.
Northeastern returns to Hockey East play next weekend with a road series against the Vermont Catamounts on Friday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 10, both at 7 p.m.
