Northeastern defeats UConn, 4-2

No. 8 Northeastern Downs No. 5 UConn, 4-2

STORRS, Conn.— Powered by four different goal scorers, the No. 8 Northeastern women's hockey team defeated the No. 5 Connecticut Huskies, 4-2, on Friday evening at Toscano Family Ice Forum.
 
With the win, Northeastern improves to 19-6-0 overall and 14-1-0 in Hockey East.
  • Sophomore Éloïse Caron opened the scoring the first frame, after freshman Stryker Zablocki picked off a UConn pass to give NU a 1-0 lead. As time was expiring in the first, Northeastern senior Lily Shannon took an offensive zone faceoff with freshman goaltender Renna Trembecky pulled and graduate student Jaden Bogden slammed it home for a 2-0 lead with .1 second remaining in the frame.
  • In the second, UConn cut the deficit to 2-1. Senior Holly Abela pushed the Husky lead back to two just over halfway through the period. Abela's goal was assisted by junior Allie Lalonde and freshman Alessia Baechler.
  • With just 2.8 seconds left in the second, Zablocki brought Northeastern's lead to 4-1. Zablocki's goal was assisted by Caron and sophomore Tristan Thompson.
  • Connecticut scored on the power-play in the third to cut the deficit to 4-2. Northeastern kept UConn from scoring again and finished out the game with a 4-2 victory.
  • Trembecky posted her fifth win of the season in net.
Northeastern and UConn will close out the two-game series on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m.
