BOSTON — The Northeastern volleyball team rallied, but ultimately lost, 3-1, to the Stony Brook Seawolves on Sunday at the Cabot Center.
The Huskies (4-16, 2-10 CAA) won the second set, but ultimately fell 25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 to the Seawolves (11-9, 5-5 CAA).
Sophomore
Emma Rowell totaled 13 points, fueled by a team-high 12 kills, and senior
Beatrice Gennari was right behind her with 12.5 points. Gennari posted seven kills on a .375 hitting percentage and had nine total blocks (2 solos, 7 assists).
The Seawolves used an early 8-2 run to take a commanding 11-6 lead and never looked back in the first set, winning it 25-19. The Huskies responded with a 25-21 second-set win, breaking away from a 13-13 deadlock to take an 18-14 lead and then traded points from there.
In the third, sophomore
Sophie LaSala entered the game and posted a service ace, marking her first career point and ace in her first action in the red and black. The Huskies had it tied 22-22 after LaSala's ace but Stony Brook's Ella Sanders (19 kills) responded with a kill and an ace of her own to help push the Seawolves to a 2-1 set lead. Northeastern was right in it in the fourth as well, as the Huskies and Seawolves were tied 17-17. Stony Brook pulled away, however, ending the match on an 8-3 run.
The Huskies will travel to Hampton for a two-game weekend series with the Pirates beginning Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
