BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team (0-1) put five players in double figures, including a game-high 21 from
Rashad King in his return to the Huskies lineup, but Boston University (1-0) closed the game on 5-of-8 from the floor to edge NU on Monday night at Case Gym, 93-85.
Â
The Huskies erased a 17-point first half deficit to take the lead with just over six minutes to go on a three from
Ryan Williams (12 points on 4-of-7) before BU closed the game on a 20-10 run. The Terriers received 21 points from Azmar Abdullah to lead five players in double figures for a Boston University team that shot 54% from the floor and collected 18 second chance points on 12 offensive boards.
Â
Northeastern, meanwhile, shot 53% from the field on the night. King was flanked by 18 points from
Dorian Grosber (6-of-14 overall) in his Northeastern debut while
Brayden Young (13 points, four rebounds) and
Mike Loughnane (11 points, five rebounds, five assists) also reached double digits.
Â
Northeastern shot 50% as a team in the first half as King (13) and Grosber (9) combined for 22 of the Huskies 36 points, but a 55% shooting performance from the Terriers along with an 11-of-14 showing from the line gave the hosts a 10-point cushion at the break, 46-36.
Â
A 10-0 and 9-2 Terrier run helped give Boston University its largest lead of the half at 46-29 with 1:34 left until recess before Northeastern closed on a quick 7-0 run to cut into the deficit.
Â
An 11-3 Northeastern run over less than three minutes early in the second half, with four points coming from Young, quickly trimmed the BU lead down to four with plenty of time left. Northeastern stayed in the fight, at one point shooting 72% (13-of-18) to remain within striking distance.
Â
That would set up a 7-0 Huskies run over 1:26, capped by a triple from Williams that gave Northeastern a 75-73 lead, its first lead since the 11:28 mark of the first half.
Â
But it was Boston University's day, closing the game on a 20-10 run on 5-of-8 from the floor to retake control of the game and secure the win.
Â
Northeastern will head to Charlottesville on Friday for a date with No. 9/10 Virginia at 5 p.m. on ACC Network.
