BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Northeastern Huskies (2-6) finished a two-game series sweep of Grambling State (3-8) with a 10-0 victory at Alex Box Stadium on Sunday evening. Three Huskies hit their first home runs of the season — including a first career blast from
Cooper Tarantino — as Northeastern scored in six different innings to pick up their second win of the year.
Andrew Wertz led the pitching effort with five shutout innings and a career-high seven strikeouts, with
Andrew Basel and
Tom Mahoney combining for four more scoreless frames to complete the combined shutout.
- Northeastern got on the board in the third when Harrison Feinberg singled, stole second and then third, and came home on a wild pitch after Eric Cha drew a walk.
- The Huskies doubled their lead in the fourth when AJ Aschettino singled up the middle to set the table for Tarantino, who launched a two-run homer to left field — the first home run of his career — to make it 3-0.
- Feinberg and Ryan Gerety added to the lead in the seventh, hitting back-to-back home runs to left field to open the inning to extend the lead to 5-0.
- The Huskies tacked on two more in the eighth, with Chris Walsh and Feinberg working consecutive walks and swiping second and third in tandem to set up a Matt Brinker two-run double to right field that made it 7-0.
- Northeastern put the finishing touches on it in the ninth, loading the bases on a Cooper Tarantino walk, Chris Walsh single, and Carmelo Musacchia walk. Feinberg drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, before Gerety delivered a two-run single to center to cap the scoring at 10-0.
- Wertz looked sharp in his five innings, setting a new career high with seven strikeouts while allowing just one walk.
- Basel followed with three perfect innings — a career-best outing for the sophomore — striking out one and retiring all nine batters he faced, and Mahoney worked around a leadoff single to close it out.
- Feinberg finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Gerety went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Tarantino went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in his first career multi-RBI game.
- The Huskies stole 10 bases on the evening as a team, continuing to be one of the most aggressive running teams in the country early in the 2026 season. Northeastern stole 10 bags in each game against Grambling this weekend.
Northeastern will have one last game in Baton Rouge, a rematch with No. 2 LSU on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. CT, 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
