NU Dominates Elon 17-5 In Seven Innings

BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Northeastern Huskies (11-8, 6-1 CAA) erupted for 17 runs on 13 hits to run-rule the Elon Phoenix (9-12, 2-5 CAA) in seven innings on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond, opening the weekend CAA series with a dominant offensive performance. Harrison Feinberg led the way with a 3-for-4 day that included a home run and four RBIs, while Chris Walsh launched a two-run homer and drove in three as the Huskies scored in four of their six trips to the plate.

Robbie O'Connor earned his fourth win of the season with six solid innings on the mound, striking out four and scattering just four hits. Elon committed five errors on the afternoon, fueling a chaotic seven-run first inning that set the tone early.

  • Elon struck first with two runs in the top of the first on a single and a groundout, but Northeastern answered immediately in the bottom of the frame with a seven-run inning. Ryan Gerety singled to start things off, and Feinberg and Matt Brinker were each hit by pitches to load the bases. A throwing error on Anthony Ruggiero's fielder's choice brought home Gerety, and Cooper Tarantino followed with an RBI fielder's choice to score Feinberg. AJ Aschettino ripped an RBI double to shallow left to plate Brinker, before another error allowed two more runs to score. Carter Bentley stole second and came home on a wild pitch, and Feinberg capped the inning with an RBI single to left to make it 7-2.
  • Elon got one back in the fourth on an infield single, but the Huskies responded in the bottom of the frame when Brinker doubled to left field and Carmelo Musacchia crushed a two-run homer to left — his first of the season — to push the lead to 9-3.
  • Northeastern broke the game open with a four-run fifth. Bentley singled and stole third before scoring on a Walsh RBI single up the middle. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt moved Walsh to third and Gerety to second, and Feinberg drove them both home with a two-run single up the middle. Feinberg stole second, and Brinker singled through the left side to bring him home for the 13-3 lead.
  • The Huskies kept pouring it on in the sixth, as Tarantino walked and Aschettino doubled to left to set up a Bentley RBI groundout. Walsh then hammered a two-run homer to deep left field — his second of the year — and Feinberg followed with a solo shot to right field, her third of the season, to make it 17-3.
  • O'Connor (4-1) worked six innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits with just one walk and four strikeouts. He induced nine groundouts against four fly outs, keeping the Elon lineup off balance throughout.
  • Elon tacked on two in the seventh but James Morice closed out the game with a strikeout to end the game early due to run rule.
  • Feinberg finished 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Walsh went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBIs, three runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base. Aschettino added a pair of doubles and an RBI.
  • The Huskies were 7-for-13 with runners in scoring position, a sharp turnaround from Tuesday's 1-for-9 performance against Merrimack. Northeastern also swiped four more bases to continue its aggressive baserunning campaign.
  • Northeastern extends its winning streak against Elon to six games. The Huskies are now 10-3 all-time against the Phoenix at Friedman Diamond.

The series continues on Saturday, March 21st at 1 p.m. at Friedman Diamond, with game two streaming on FloCollege.
