WASHINGTON – After scoring the most points for a Northeastern freshman in more than a decade, men's basketball guard Xavier Abreu was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team on Friday.
 
It marks the 10th time in program history that a Huskies rookie has been named to the team, and first since Jahmyl Telfort in 2021.
 
Abreu averaged 12.3 points per game and shot 46% from the field during the regular season, reaching double figures 16 times in 27 games including four games with 20+ points, one game with 30+ points and leading the team in scoring in seven games.
 
Most of his damage has been done in the second half, where he's scored 61% of his points (202-of-333) including 18 points in the final 20 minutes against both North Carolina A&T (Dec. 31) and Elon (Jan. 15), and 17 against Drexel on Feb. 19.
 
His breakout performance came after averaging 24.5 ppg in two games off the bench to earn CAA Player of the Week honors on Nov. 24. Abreu registered his first career double-digit scoring effort with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting while logging three steals at Princeton and followed it up by notching 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting vs. Duquesne two days later. He also added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block in the final minute of the game. 
 
He was the first rookie to earn CAA Player of the Week honors since Elon's Darius Burford in 2021, and just the 12th rookie in program history and first since 2020 to drop at least 32 points in a game.
 
In league play, he was second on the team averaging 13.6 points per game and shot 46% from the floor, highlighted by his first collegiate double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Hofstra (February 21).
 
Abreu and the Huskies kick off postseason action on Friday when Northeastern takes on North Carolina A&T in the first round of the 2026 Air Force Reserve CAA Men's Basketball Championship (2 p.m. on FloCollege).
