NU Falls To Hofstra On Senior Day

BOSTON, Mass. -- Justice Tramble led Northeastern (7-21, 3-15 CAA) with 15 points and the Huskies held a five-point first-quarter lead, but Hofstra (8-21, 6-12 CAA) outscored the home team 53-32 over the final three periods to close out the regular season with a 62-46 victory at the Cabot Center on Saturday afternoon.

Tramble paced Northeastern with 15 points on 3-of-5 shooting and a game-high 9-of-10 from the free throw line, adding five rebounds and a block. Nariyah Simmons chipped in nine points and a team-high four steals, and Camryn Collins added six points, three assists and two steals in 26 minutes.

Northeastern shot just 33.3 percent from the field and went a difficult 3-of-17 from three-point range — a telling factor in a game where Hofstra's (8-21, 6-12 CAA) perimeter shooting proved to be the decisive difference. The Pride connected on 11-of-22 three-point attempts at 50 percent on the afternoon, with Alarice Gooden leading the way with 11 points on 3-of-4 from deep. Chloe Sterling added 11 points, Ema Karim came off the bench for eight, and Nevaeh Brown contributed 10 points on a perfect 4-of-5 shooting.

Northeastern came out sharp in the first quarter, with back-to-back three-pointers from Simmons and Yirsy Quéliz helping the Huskies build a five-point lead with 55 seconds remaining in the period. The lead was the Huskies' biggest of the game. Northeastern held on to finish the quarter ahead 14-9.

Hofstra opened the second quarter with consecutive three-pointers from Gooden off Tramble and Collins turnovers to take a 15-14 lead just over a minute into the period, and Northeastern never recovered its footing. The Huskies went just 1-of-6 from the field in the quarter with eight turnovers, scoring only seven points as Hofstra outscored them 20-7 to take a 29-21 halftime lead.

The third quarter brought more of the same; Northeastern managed just eight points on 4-of-15 shooting while going 0-of-6 from three, and Hofstra pushed its lead to as many as 18 with a Micaela Carter fast-break three-pointer with 25 seconds left in the period. The Huskies trailed 47-29 heading into the final frame.

Northeastern made a push in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hofstra 17-15 in the final period. A 10-0 run spanning from a Simmons three-pointer through consecutive Tramble free throws and a Collins driving layup trimmed the deficit to 14 with seven and a half minutes remaining, and the Huskies' 13 steals in the game — led by Simmons' four — disrupted Hofstra repeatedly. But Northeastern could not convert enough possessions to make it a game, and the final score stood at 62-46.

Hofstra's 24 points off Northeastern turnovers compared to just 13 the other way was one of the starkest differences on the day. The Pride also outscored the Huskies 18-9 on the bench.

The Huskies conclude the regular season and will next compete in the CAA Women's Basketball Championship, set for March 11-15 at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.
