AMESBURY, Mass. — Freshman Giacomo Martino of the Northeastern men's hockey team has been named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, as announced by Hockey East on Monday. This marks the third league honor of Martino's collegiate career.

Martino led all Hockey East rookies with two goals over the weekend, fueling a two-point performance in Northeastern's upset victory over No. 13 Boston College. The forward scored the game-tying goal in the second period before adding the insurance tally, capping a 4-2 final, and led the team with four shots on goal.

Through Hockey East play, Martino's seven power-play goals on the season rank tenth nationally and tied for first among all league rookies — second among all Hockey East skaters overall. The Toronto native has also extended a recent scoring surge to eight points from five goals and three assists over his last eight games.

Martino and the Huskies open Hockey East tournament play this Wednesday at 7 p.m., hosting 10-seeded New Hampshire at Conte Forum.
