BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Northeastern Huskies (24-16, 14-5 CAA) shut out the Hofstra Pride (14-21, 8-11 CAA) by a score of 8-0 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond, with Robbie O'Connor delivering six scoreless innings to earn his seventh win of the season.
Matt Brinker's two-run home run ignited a four-run sixth, and Harrison Feinberg capped a three-run eighth with a two-RBI double as the Huskies avenged a two-loss series at Hofstra last month, tying the season series at 2-2.
- Northeastern broke through in the first when Tyler Harmony walked and moved to third on Ryan Gerety's single to right. Brinker then singled through the left side to score Harmony and give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
- The offense stalled until the sixth, when Gerety singled to start the frame and Brinker followed with a two-run home run to right field -- his seventh of the season, measuring 392 feet -- to push the lead to 3-0. Carmelo Musacchia was hit by pitch and stole second before Criscola singled to center to score him. Henry DiGiorgio then singled to right to score Criscola and cap a four-run inning, making it 5-0.
- Northeastern added three more in the eighth on a Tarantino single, a DiGiorgio ground-rule double to center that put runners on second and third, and back-to-back RBI hits from Harmony and Feinberg -- Feinberg's two-run double to right scoring both DiGiorgio and Harmony to close out the scoring at 8-0.
- O'Connor (7-1) was dominant, working six shutout innings and allowing five hits while walking none and striking out seven on 81 pitches. He stranded multiple Hofstra threats including a two-on, no-out jam in the sixth that he pitched out of himself.
- Andrew Rogovic worked two scoreless innings in relief striking out three, and David McSweeney closed out the ninth with a scoreless frame, striking out the final batter of the game.
- Gerety led all hitters with three hits on the day with a run scored, while Brinker (2 hits, 3 RBI), DiGiorgio (2 hits, 1 RBI), and Harmony (2 hits, 1 RBI) all chipped in withh multi-hit days.
- Northeastern pitched its fifth shutout of the season, extending their nation-leading total. O'Connor held Hofstra to a .156 batting average against through six innings, continuing the Huskies' dominant stretch of run prevention at Friedman Diamond -- the team is now 11-0 when holding opponents to two runs or fewer this season.
- The Huskies now hold a 7-1 record in CAA games this season in which they score first, and are 12-1 when leading a CAA contest after six innings.
