BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Northeastern (15-14, 9-5 CAA) dropped the second game of the series to Monmouth (15-12, 11-3 CAA) on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond, as the Hawks plated four runs in the sixth inning to overcome an early Northeastern lead.
- Northeastern jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, as Carter Bentley singled and Charlie Criscola doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Will Fosberg cleared them both with a two-run double to right field, and Carmelo Musacchia followed immediately with an RBI single to center to push the lead to three.
- Chris Walsh added an RBI single in the fourth, scoring Carter Bentley, who had walked and stolen second, to extend the advantage to 4-1 after a Hofstra solo homer.
- AJ Aschettino doubled down the right field line in the fifth to score Brinker and make it 5-3, before the pivotal sixth inning changed the game's complexion.
- Monmouth pushed across four runs in the top of the sixth entirely on manufactured runs - with the bases loaded on three straight singles, a bunt single started the scoring, followed by a hit by pitch and two sac flies to make it 7-5. The Hawks extended the lead in the ninth but the Huskies cut down the second runner trying to score on a single, going to the bottom of the ninth down three.
- Northeastern attempted a rally in the ninth as Musacchia and Gerety each tallied a single to put runners on the corners - the Huskies scored once in the frame on a Brinker infield single that plated Musacchia, but the rally stalled with two runners stranded, leaving the final at 8-6.
The series is tied at one game apiece, with the rubber match set for Saturday at Friedman Diamond at 1 p.m.
