Mike Loughnane Named 2026-27 Men's Basketball Captain

BOSTON – Northeastern men's basketball head coach Bill Coen announced Wednesday that rising senior Mike Loughnane will serve as captain of the Huskies in 2026-27.

"Mike has been a proven leader for our program from the moment he stepped on campus," said Coen. "He's someone who puts in the work on the court and in the classroom day in and day out, and goes about his business the right way. We look to him to lead by example, and we are confident that he will continue to be a positive influence on both our returning and incoming players in the year ahead."

Loughnane, the team's leading returning scorer in 2026-27, is coming off a career year in 2025-26 in which he played in 31 games, including 23 straight starts to end the season, setting new career highs in nearly every statistical category. He averaged 10.2 points per game and shot 52% from the field along with a team-high 117 assists. Loughnane also reached double figures in 12 games, including four games with 20+ points along with 10 games where he recorded at least five assists.

The Quincy, Mass. native was third on the team averaging 10.9 points per game in CAA action, shooting 44% overall, and went for a career-high 29 points on 8-of-10 from the field and 10-of-10 from the line against Drexel in the CAA Second Round (Mar. 7), playing all 40 minutes. He also recorded a career-high nine assists on two occasions, and finished second in the CAA in assist/turnover ratio (2.39).
