WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Ryan Gerety's walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the ninth scored Tyler Harmony from second base as the Northeastern Huskies (38-20) defeated top-seeded Campbell (41-17) by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Brooks Field, claiming the 2026 CAA Championship and the program's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
It is Northeastern's second consecutive CAA Tournament title and third in program history, and the first back-to-back titles in program history. It's also the first time in program history the Huskies have earned back-to-back NCAA Regional berths. Andrew Wertz, who appeared in all four Northeastern wins during the tournament, picked up the victory with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and was named CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Six Northeastern pitchers combined to hold Campbell to just two runs on eight hits, with Robbie O'Connor delivering five strong innings to start the game.
- Campbell threatened in the first inning when a single and a fielding error put two runners on with one out, but O'Connor, starting on short rest, induced a foul out and a groundout to escape unscathed. He would settle in from there, retiring 10 of the next 11 batters he faced through the fourth inning.
- Campbell broke through in the fifth on a solo home run to right field. A hit-by-pitch and a stolen base put another runner in scoring position, and an RBI single to right scored the second run of the inning to give the Camels a 2-0 lead. O'Connor limited the damage by striking out the next batter to end the inning.
- The Huskies answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth. Will Fosberg was hit by a pitch and Henry DiGiorgio singled to shallow center to put runners at first and second. After a Harmony walk loaded the bases, Campbell turned to position player Jett Music on the mound. Harrison Feinberg reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop that scored Fosberg to cut the lead to 2-1, though DiGiorgio was thrown out at third on the play.
- Northeastern tied the game in the sixth. Charlie Criscola drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a Fosberg single to right. After a DiGiorgio walk loaded the bases, Harmony singled to left on the first pitch he saw, scoring Criscola.
- The Northeastern bullpen was superb after O'Connor exited. Matthew Sapienza worked 0.2 innings, Tom Mahoney escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with a fly ball to left, game two starter Luc Rising threw a scoreless seventh, and Andrew Rogovic worked around two singles and a walk in the eighth before Wertz entered to strike out the final out, leaving the bases loaded.
- Wertz set down the side in order in the ninth, striking out two of the three batters he faced to keep the game tied and set up the walk-off.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Harmony led off with a double to left field. Feinberg singled through the left side of the infield to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Gerety then laced a first-pitch single to right field, scoring Harmony from second to set off the celebration at Brooks Field.
- O'Connor delivered a gutsy start on just two day's rest, working five innings and allowing two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks. He threw 70 pitches, inducing six ground-ball outs against four fly-ball outs, and stranded five Campbell runners across his five frames.
- Wertz (2-2) earned the win and was named CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player after finishing the tournament with 3.1 innings pitched across four appearances without allowing a hit or a run. He struck out six of the 12 batters he faced and walked just one across the four games.
- Harmony went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and the game-winning run scored. Feinberg, who played through injury during the tournament, went 1-for-5 with an RBI. Gerety delivered the walk-off on his first swing of the at-bat, finishing 1-for-4 with the game's biggest hit.
- Carmelo Musacchia's bunt single in the third inning was the 200th hit of his college career, making him the 11th player in Northeastern history to reach the milestone.
- Four Huskies were named to the All-Tournament Team: Harrison Feinberg, who played through injury and collected three RBIs and a game-tying home run during the tournament while collecting all 11 putout chances in the outfield; Ryan Gerety, who delivered the championship-winning walk-off; Luc Rising, who struck out 11 in an elimination-game start against UNCW; and Andrew Wertz, the Most Outstanding Player, who did not allow a hit in 3.1 tournament innings while striking out six.
- The championship is the third CAA Tournament title in program history (2021, 2025, 2026) and the second in consecutive seasons.
- The Huskies won four games in three days from the elimination bracket to claim the title, outscoring their opponents 22-13 across the four victories. Northeastern stranded 11 Campbell runners in the championship game alone, holding the Camels to just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.Â
Northeastern earns the CAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will learn its regional destination on Monday during the NCAA Selection Show. It is the program's 12th NCAA Tournament appearance and second in as many seasons. The selection show will air on Monday, May 25 on ESPN2.
