Huskies Tally 15, Take Series Against Stony Brook

BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Northeastern Huskies (30-18, 19-7 CAA) erupted for 15 runs on 17 hits to blank the Stony Brook Seawolves (20-27, 12-14 CAA) by a score of 15-0 in seven innings on Saturday morning at Friedman Diamond, clinching the weekend series and their fifth home CAA series win of the season.

Senior Luc Rising delivered six shutout innings to earn his fifth win of the season, scattering just three hits while striking out five. The Huskies' offense exploded for four runs in the third, eight in the fifth, and three more in the sixth, with Ryan Gerety leading the way with a 4-for-5 afternoon that included a solo home run and four RBIs. Harrison Feinberg added two doubles and four RBIs, while Matt Brinker collected three hits and three RBIs as every starter in the Northeastern lineup reached base.

  • Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before Northeastern broke through with a four-run third. Henry DiGiorgio led off with a single and Tyler Harmony followed with a single up the middle that sent DiGiorgio to third. Feinberg singled through the right side to plate DiGiorgio, and Gerety singled to right to bring home Harmony and move Feinberg to second. After a mound visit, Brinker singled up the middle to score Feinberg. Carmelo Musacchia capped the frame with a sacrifice fly to center to score Gerety for the 4-0 lead.
  • Rising worked around a bases-loaded jam in the fourth, striking out the final batter of the inning to keep the shutout intact.
  • Northeastern put up an eight-run fifth inning to blow the game open. Gerety started the frame with a solo home run to left center, his fourth of the season. Brinker singled and moved to second on a walk to Charlie Criscola before a Stony Brook pitching change. With the bases loaded after a walk to Musacchia, Will Fosberg reached on a fielder's choice that plated Brinker, with Criscola also scoring on a throwing error for the 7-0 lead.
  • The fifth inning continued with DiGiorgio singling to shallow right to put runners at first and second, and Harmony doubling to left center to score Fosberg and send DiGiorgio to third. After Feinberg was walked intentionally, Gerety singled to drive in two more for the 10-0 advantage. Brinker then singled to shallow left to score Feinberg and Gerety, pushing the lead to 12-0 before the inning ended.
  • Northeastern added three insurance runs in the sixth. Musacchia singled, DiGiorgio singled to move him to second, and Harmony was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Feinberg then doubled to left center to clear the bases and push the score to 15-0, ending the game via the run rule after seven innings.
  • Rising improved to 5-4 on the season, needing just 92 pitches to get through six innings. He walked two and hit no batters, inducing five ground-ball outs and seven fly-ball outs while keeping Stony Brook off balance all morning.
  • Freshman Tom Mahoney worked a perfect seventh inning, striking out one, to close out the shutout.
  • Gerety's 4-for-5 day was his best performance of the CAA season, driving in four runs and scoring three times. He extended his on-base streak to 45 games, dating back to February 24th against Nebraska — the third-longest in program history.
  • DiGiorgio continued his strong play out of the nine-hole, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. He reached base in all four plate appearances and was a catalyst at the bottom of the order in both the third and fifth-inning rallies.
  • Feinberg finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs, and two runs scored. His three-run double in the sixth loaded up another dominant multi-RBI performance.
  • With the victory, Northeastern reaches 30 wins for the sixth consecutive season, extending the longest such streak in program history. Only seven of the program's 100-plus seasons have reached the 30-win mark, and all seven have come under head coach Mike Glavine.
  • The Huskies have now won all five of their home CAA series this season, and have won eight of nine CAA series on the year with one full weekend remaining in the regular season.
  • The combined shutout was Northeastern's sixth of the season, which continues to rank among the top of the nation.

The series concludes on Sunday, May 10th at 1 p.m. at Friedman Diamond, with game three streaming on FloCollege.
