Jimmy Catalano Elevated To Associate Head Coach

BOSTON – Northeastern men's rowing head coach Alex Perkins announced on Wednesday that Jimmy Catalano has been elevated to associate head coach. Catalano enters his fifth season at Northeastern in 2026-27 after spending the previous four as an assistant coach.

"Jimmy has been key to our success as a team since his first day on the staff," Perkins said. "He is an excellent coach, communicator, and mentor to our student-athletes. He brings a wealth of knowledge in the sport but above all else he brings out the best in people."

In Catalano's four seasons at Henderson Boathouse, the Huskies program has seen five boats reach the A Final at the Eastern Sprints along with a sixth-place finish nationally from the first varsity at the 2023 IRA Championships. As a team, Northeastern recorded its highest finish at the 2026 Eastern Sprints in two decades thanks to a bronze medal from the first varsity, the first medal at the Sprints since 2015.

At the conclusion of the season, Northeastern was named the 2025-26 Rusty Callow Award winner, presented each year by the EARC to the crew that, in the previous year, best personified the virtues of "spirit, courage and unity." Awarded annually since 1963, the winner of the award is determined by a vote of the EARC head coaches.

"I am incredibly excited to step into the Associate Head Coach role and build on the momentum this program has created over the last couple of years," Catalano said. "I'm grateful to keep growing this program alongside Alex, as the team continues excelling at the national level. I'm also looking forward to helping develop our student-athletes to be the best they can be, both on and off the water. I truly believe in this program's foundation and culture, and I am honored to get to be a part of it."

Catalano rowed at the University of Wisconsin from 2017-2022, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Master's Degree in Private Equity Real Estate.
