BOSTON -- The Northeastern volleyball opened its home slate in style, sweeping Holy Cross 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-22) at Cabot Center on Friday night.
The Huskies controlled play from the jump, cruising through the first two sets before Holy Cross made things interesting in the third, tying the score once and forcing a lead change before Northeastern closed it out 25-22.
Emma Rowell paced the offense with a match-high 9 kills and 10.0Â points, hitting .250 on the night. Brynn Smith wasn't far behind, tallying 8 kills and a team-high 10.5 points on a sharp .240 clip. Kaylin Daniels rounded out the offensive attack with 5 kills and added 6 blocks.
Setter Arina Sosinovica ran the offense efficiently, dishing out 13 assists while also chipping in 9 digs, and Sofia King added another 13 assists from the back row. Defensively, Aven Crosby led all players with 11 digs.
As a team, Northeastern hit a blistering .276 for the match compared to Holy Cross's .067, the difference maker in a dominant home-opening win.
Northeastern is back in action for game two of their weekend tournament tomorrow, taking on Fairfield at 5 p.m. at Cabot Center.
