BOSTON -- The Northeastern volleyball went toe-to-toe with Harvard at Cabot Center on Sunday, forcing a decisive fifth set before the Crimson pulled away late for a 3-2 win (25-23, 21-25, 28-30, 26-24, 15-10).
Harvard took the opener, but the Huskies answered to even the match in the second. The third set was the night's signature battle, with Northeastern outlasting extras for a 30-28 win to grab a 2-1 lead. Harvard responded with an equally tight fourth, 26-24, before closing out the fifth 15-10. The two teams tied the score 22 times with 11 lead changes overall, most of it packed into that third-set marathon.
Cayenne Ceman led the Huskies' attack with a match-high 19 kills on a .359 clip and a team-best 24.5 points.
Emma Rowell added 15 kills, and
Brynn Smith chipped in 10 kills. Additionally,
Beatrice Gennari added seven kills and a team-high six block assists.
Setter
Arina Sosinovica ran the offense with 29 assists and 16 digs, and
Sofia King added 25 assists in relief.
Iris Canko paced the defense with a match-high 20 digs.
Northeastern out-hit Harvard for the match, .240 to .204, and out-killed the Crimson 69-62, but the Crimson won the day at the service line and the net, out-acing the Huskies 12-6.
