TESTIMONIALS

"As a baseball player at Northeastern, the co-op process can be particularly stressful due to the conflicts that arise from the Division I season. The mentor program, along with the co-op curriculum, makes the process more manageable by making sure student-athletes are prepared to enter the professional world. The alumni in the program go out of their way to foster relationships that will not only help navigate the co-op process, but also establish a plan and connections for when our baseball and college careers come to an end."

"To me, the most impressive part of the alumni mentoring committee was their responsiveness. Within 24 hours of informing Howard that I had an interview at John Hancock for a finance co-op, he was able to work with the committee's leadership to find a Northeastern baseball alum who currently worked at the company. Through the committee's network, I was able to speak with an employer at John Hancock before I even interviewed."

"Northeastern provides its students with a lot of great opportunities, and the co-op program is near the top of that list. Student-athletes at Northeastern get some of the best help when it comes to sports training and coaching, and also from the amazing people in Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) for academics. The mentoring program that Howard and Coach Glavine started is now another great tool for student-athletes to start preparing for the early stages of their careers. Thanks to the alumni mentoring committee, this program has pointed me in the right direction, helping me build a strong foundation for my post-graduate career. But just like sports, your level of success is only determined by your level of effort, and this program is no different. For those who are serious about taking advantage of the advice the alumni mentors provide, this program will prove to be extremely valuable. It certainly has been for me."

BUILDING CONNECTIONS
Howard Rosen '91
Committee Chair
"We initiated the alumni mentoring program a few years ago as a way to give back to the university and baseball program. We provide personalized one-on-one guidance to each student-athlete to support their early-stage career planning efforts. We have seen excellent results as our alumni involvement has expanded."

Committee Vice-Chair
"The NU mentorship program started out simply; I knew where I wanted to get to but I did not have a map. Howard was just the right person to connect with. A simple breakfast meeting helped me understand the following critical aspects: have a plan and an objective, build out the steps, and execute the plan. This program, while not even a formal thought at the time, pointed me in the right direction and got me started off on the right foot with my career. This is a program I want to see impact many more student-athletes - past, present, and future.

COACH'S PERSPECTIVE

Mike Glavine '96
Baseball Head Coach
"This is an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes here at Northeastern. Our players can connect with alumni on a personal basis, receive mentorship, and obtain incredible career-shaping advice. I am so thankful to our alums for staying close to the program and impacting our student-athlete's experience and lives. I am so proud of our student-athletes' success on and off the field and excited that our alumni share this vision with us."
