Postgame Quotes: Stanford 73, Huskies 59
Northeastern Head Coach Bill Coen:
"I thought we got off to a terribly slow start; we really couldn't shoot the ball well at all in the first half, but sometimes that happens. Stanford stepped up and made big plays when they needed to. Whether it was making a big rebound, exerting themselves going to the basket or making a big shot, they made the plays, and you have to tip your hat to them for that.
"White made a big shot (three-pointer with 5:20 to go in the second half to give Stanford a 60-55 lead) and it was enough to stretch the lead and give them a comfort level to finish out the game. But we came back in the second half and competed (including a 20-3 scoring run that closed the score from 54-35 to 57-55 with 6 minutes left). We're a young team with only one senior, and the young guys made some good plays but not quite enough of them.Â
"It was one of our goals to not get dominated on the boards; they have tremendous size and length . I thought we did a pretty good job in there (rebounds were even at 36-36).
"As for what we take away from this game, it's all about a learning process for us in how we approach the game, a fuller understanding of scouting reports, how to keep your composure on the road, to play unselfishly. If we continue to grow in those areas, I'll feel very positive about our team. These kids don't shy away from competition."
Northeastern guard Bolden Brace:
"We made a good run (in the second half) and had the momentum, but they made a three (White's) and got the momentum back on their side. Momentum is especially tough to get on the road, we talked about it before the game. We knew we needed to get energy from getting the momentum, and we did there for a few minutes.
"We played them pretty well but they hit the shots when they needed them, that was the difference."
