Cheri Schulz enters her fourth season with the Northeastern field hockey team as an assistant coach in 2026.
"I have admired Cheri as a coach for many years and am beyond excited to work alongside her." Spuehler said. "Cheri brings a wealth of knowledge and experience along with a positive energy and passion for the sport which is easy to feed off. I truly believe Cheri is the best goalkeeping coach in the country and I know she will help bring great success to our program."
In her first season with the Huskies, she helped lead the team to an 8-10 overall record, going 3-3 in CAA play. In her second season, she assisted in the 12-7 season, with a 5-1 record in the CAA conference.
Schulz was an assistant coach with UConn from 2001-2023, being a part of three national championship teams in 2013, 2014 and 2017. During her time at UConn, in 2018, Schulz was brought on as a goalkeeping specialist for the USA Field Hockey U16, U18 and U21 teams.
The Huskies won 15 Big East Regular season and postseason titles during her time there, including an undefeated (23-0) season in 2017 in route to the national title. Over her time with the Huskies, the team put together an overall record of 394-95-1.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to work as Pam's assistant coach at Northeastern. She has an incredible and infectious vision for her student-athletes and for the growth of the field hockey program." Schulz said. "Her passion for our sport, knowledge of the game and her fearless approach to leading this team is truly inspiring. I am looking forward to being a part of her vision, with the current/future players and especially to take this journey forward with Pam and Colin."
Before joining UConn, Schulz spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Providence, helping guide the Friars to the 2000 BIG EAST Championship game. She previously served as an assistant at Fairfield in 1998, contributing to the program’s first Patriot League title.
A 1996 graduate of Syracuse, Schulz was a four-year starter and compiled a 54-23-6 record. She earned All-BIG EAST honors in 1993 and 1995, was named an All-American in 1995, and received BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors that same year. She still holds multiple program records, including career saves, save percentage, goals-against average, single-game saves, and shutouts. Schulz earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Syracuse in 1996 and remained at her alma mater as a graduate assistant from 1996 to 1998.
