Ed Walsh enters his tenth season as Northeastern’s volunteer assistant coach after stepping in midway through the 2012-13 season. Walsh primarily works with the Huskies’ goaltending corps, and has been on staff for Northeastern’s Beanpot titles in 2018, 2019 and 2020, Hockey East championships in 2016 and 2019 and NCAA tournament appearances in 2016, 2018 and 2019. 
 
During his time at Northeastern, Walsh has guided Cayden Primeau (1.92 in 2017-18; 2.09 in 2018-19), Ryan Ruck (2.36 in 2015-16) and Clay Witt (2.37 in 2013-14) to the four lowest single-season goals against averages in program history, in addition to the three highest save percentage marks (Primeau: .933 in 2018-19 and .931 in 2017-18; Witt: .932 in 2013-14) in team history. Primeau became the first Northeastern goaltender to win the Mike Richter Award in 2019 as college hockey's top netminder. He also helped graduate transfer Craig Pantano to the best season his his career with a career-best 18 wins, 2.50 GAA and a .915 Save pct.

In 2020-21, starting goalie Devon Levi missed the entire season and Walsh helped guide Connor Murphy to a career-highs in wins (9), GAA (2.87), and save percentage (.904). Murphy was also was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week (1/18) and ended the season with two shutouts and two offensive points.

In relation to college hockey, Walsh left his footprint on both the UMass Lowell and Dartmouth programs. In 2010-11, Walsh returned to UMass Lowell as the team’s primary goaltending coach before a six-year run at Dartmouth where he served in a similar position. Before his time in Hanover, New Hampshire, Walsh served as systems analyst and goaltender coach for UMass Lowell for eight seasons from 1994 to 2003.
 
During his primary run with UMass Lowell, Walsh was on staff in 1996 when the River Hawks’ staff received the NCAA Division Coaching Staff of the Year Award. Also during that time, Lowell made six appearances in the Hockey East Championship and NCAA quarterfinals twice.
 
Walsh coached with the USA Hockey New England program and also works with USA Hockey as a coach and lecturer. Before that opportunity, Walsh skippered the New Hampshire Select-17 Team.
 
As a player, Walsh was a top-end goaltender and was named the defensive player of the year and goaltender of the year in Massachusetts. He also backstopped Team Massachusetts when it went on to claim the 1983 USA Championship. Walsh’s collegiate career was cut short at Salem State after he endured an injury that ended his career just after his freshman season.
 
For the last 27 years, Walsh has owned and operated the Ed Walsh Hockey Schools. Walsh has placed many of his pupils in the professional, collegiate and prep school ranks. His classes specialize in providing offensive and defensive training and goaltending training.
 
Walsh and his wife, Joanne, have two sons, Alexander and Cameron. They reside in North Salem, New Hampshire.
