Jurko completed his first season on Mitchell's staff in 2022-23 after previously completing his sixth season as a member of the UNC Asheville women’s basketball staff, and fourth as an assistant coach. Jurko spent 2016-18 with the institution as Director of Operations, where he assists behind the scenes with video, scouting and travel arrangements.
In his first season on Mitchell's staff, the Huskies had a historical one. The team was picked to finish eighth in the CAA preseason poll, and finished tied for first in the conference with a program-record 13 wins in CAA play, earning the program's first-ever CAA regular season title. The Huskies won nine straight games down the stretch of the season, highlighted by victories against Drexel on their home court, marking the first home loss for the Dragons during the season. Northeastern took down six-seed Stony Brook in the quarterfinals, and made the CAA semifinals for just the third time in program history.
Jurko has been a pivotal part of the program at UNC Asheville that achieved new heights. The last two seasons, he saw the Bulldogs play in back-to-back postseason tournaments, numerous school records broken, and 36 program victories.
Prior to Asheville, Jurko was an assistant coach for Sagemont HS in Weston, Florida, and helped the nationally-recognized program reach the State Finals in Class 3-A. A native of Weston, Jurko went to Florida State University for four years as an engineering major, and then decided to pursue a career in athletics, enrolling in Florida’s sport management program. He earned his B.S. in December 2016.
