Jess Genco enters her first season as the assistant coach of the Northeastern women’s basketball team, having re-joined her alma mater in September 2020. A four-year letterwinner and Class of 2019 graduate, Genco ranks today as the Huskies’ third all-time leading scorer (1,567 career points) and the program’s career record holder in minutes played (4,687), games started (122), assists (548) and 3-point field goals (298).
After graduating from Northeastern, Genco competed professionally during the 2019-20 campaign for Eisvögel USC Freiburg inside Germany’s premier division, the Women’s Basketball Bundesliga (DBBL). Before the club’s season was halted by the coronavirus pandemic, she was averaging 8.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, helping Eisvögel USC move into a three-way tie for third place in the DBBL standings.
When not competing, Genco has dedicated herself to mentorship in and around basketball, teaching at youth development clinics during her time with Eisvögel USC. She also has an on-going rapport with the You're With Us! mentorship program, where she began volunteering during her junior and senior years at Northeastern.
From 2015 to 2019, Genco compiled one of the greatest playing careers ever recorded across Northeastern women’s basketball history. Among her notable accomplishments with the Huskies, she was named a two-time All-CAA First Team selection (2017-18, 2018-19), won three career CAA statistical championships and earned 2018-19 All-ECAC Honorable Mention recognition.
As Northeastern's point guard, Genco ranked among the top three NCAA Division I players nationally in minutes per game during three of her four collegiate seasons. She also became the program's first player to eclipse 500 career assists and achieved the Huskies' 3-point shooting trifecta, setting program records for single-game (nine), single-season (89) and career performances.
Genco graduated from Northeastern in 2019 with her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management.
