Mike Leflar begins his third year with the Northeastern women's basketball team during 2017-18 and first season in the role as associate head coach. He was promoted from assistant coach to his current position at the beginning of the 2017-18 season.
Upon his arrival, Leflar brought more than 12 years of coaching experience with him to Huntington Avenue, having spent the 2014-15 season as the associate head coach at Binghamton. While working with the Bearcats, he coordinated the program’s recruiting efforts and played a prominent role in rebuilding and shaping the direction of the program.
Familiar with the Boston coaching scene, Leflar served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Boston University for 10 seasons and was promoted to associate head coach in June 2012. From 2004 to 2014, he implemented new offensive and defensive schemes, helping the Terriers win two America East regular-season championships (2009, 2012) and make four WNIT appearances (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013). In addition to instructing the team’s guards and post-position players, Leflar was the program’s liaison with university personnel and also worked closely with the team’s academic advisor.
With a wealth of experience in signing top recruits, Leflar was the head recruiter at Boston University for two America East Conference Player of the Year winners, Jesyka Burks-Wiley (2009) and Chantell Alford (2011-13). He also signed 12 all-conference honorees and mentored 10 players that managed to reach the 1,000-point plateau during their careers.
Prior to coaching at Boston University, Leflar was the assistant coach at Pennsylvania during its 2003-04 Ivy League championship campaign. His primary duties included scouting opponents, breaking down film reviews, and developing the squad's post-position players.
Leflar graduated from Boston College in 2002 with his bachelor’s degree in communications and minors in American studies and black studies. He has been a presenter at the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Assistant Coaches Roundtable, and has participated in the Nike Villa 7 program.
