Northeastern volleyball head coach Ken Nichols has announced the addition of Nicole Bishop as an assistant coach of the Huskies, the same team that she played for from 2009-12.
Bishop will enter her first season as a coach with the Huskies in 2018.
“I could not be happier to announce that Nicole Bishop has accepted the assistant position here at Northeastern, and can not wait to get her back into her old gym this fall and working with these young players,” said Nichols. “Nicole remained in the Boston area after graduation and it was great to see her become deeply invested in the volleyball community as both a player and coach.”
“As a player for me, Nicole’s influence reached well beyond her remarkable career numbers,” continued Nichols. “Her leadership and influence on others, both on and off the court, were undeniable. She’s always been the type who can affect your emotional side as well as the cerebral, and will be counted on for both. She shares my love for the University and has an obvious understanding of all it can offer. Nicole will make a great addition to our Howlin’ Husky family and I am thrilled to have her back.”
Bishop, a 2014 Northeastern graduate, who also participated on the women’s rowing team after her four years as a volleyball letterwinner, continued her playing career as a USA Premier Volleyball League athlete for three seasons starting as a middle at PVL Nationals from 2013-15.
"I am very excited to be rejoining the Northeastern Husky family,” said Bishop. “This is an amazing opportunity and I am really looking forward to the fall season. We have an incredible group of young women on this team and I hope to help push them to their full potential.”
After her playing career concluded, Bishop began her coaching career first with Evolution Volleyball from December 2015 until May 2017 and then as the Head Volleyball Coach at Gann Academy last season.
While at Evolution Volleyball, Bishop assisted coaching the 16s, 17s, and 18s power teams throughout the club season, speficially focused on hitting and blocking with the front row players.
At Gann Academy, Bishop took the reins of the volleyball team where she organized, managed and supervised athletics activites, practice sessions and tournaments while also taking on game management and administrative duties.
Bishop helped the Gann Academy Red Heifers to the IGC Semi Finals in her season at the helm.
