Junior RHP Les Williams (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) has been named ECAC Pitcher of the Week and the Northeastern Student Athlete of the Week in addition to his CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week honor. Williams nearly threw a no-hitter last Friday against Bryant, allowing just an infield single in eight spectacular innings. The performance boosted his record to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to a team-best 1.80.
Williams has allowed just 11 hits this season and has given up just four earned runs in 20 innings of work. He is expected to make his fourth start of the year on Friday night in the Huskies' CAA-opener against VCU in Richmond, Va. at 7 p.m.
Of the 77 batters to face Williams this season, only 17 have reached base. Williams has allowed just five walks and has racked up 16 strike outs.
Northeastern is 6-5 on the season heading into conference play. NU is batting a combined .303 and is scoring an average of 6.5 runs per game. Husky pitchers have a combined 5.97 ERA and are holding opponents to a .278 batting average.
