Women's Soccer

Boston College 5, Northeastern 2

The Northeastern women's soccer loss to crosstown, non-conference rival Boston College 5-2 on Tuesday night.

For the Eagles, juniors Meghan Moore and Morgan Page each scored a pair of goals, while freshman Sarah Rahko recorded a goal and two assists for BC, who improved to 12-5-0 overall. Northeastern fell to 9-4-1 overall with the loss.

Moore opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, taking a Rahko through-ball to the left side and beating Northeastern starting goalkeeper Shelly Parkinson from about 12 yards. Three minutes later, Rahko fed Page on a nearly identical play, with Page scoring from about 15 yards out and more towards center-pitch.

The Huskies would respond quickly, however, slicing the BC lead in half. In the 27th minute Northeastern junior Shannon Dwyer went down with an injury while teammate Michelle Carberry spotted up a corner kick. Huskies coach Ed Matz used the opportunity to substitute freshman Jessica Kearn for the hobbled Dwyer, and the move paid off as Kearn headed the ensuing Carberry corner past Eagles senior 'keeper Courtney Schaeffer to make the score 2-1.

The score remained 2-1 through halftime and until the 57-minute mark, when Eagles sophomore Colleen Danaher fed a cross to Page who headed a goal from five yards out, beating backup 'keeper Sarah Reidel, who came in at halftime. Four minutes later Danaher assisted Moore on her second goal of the day, another 15-yarder off of a through-ball. Rahko sealed the win for the Eagles in the 67th minute beating Reidel off of a run from about 12 yards out. Northeastern scored just over a minute later to make it 5-2, but the Eagles held Northeastern without any real scoring chances for the remainder of the match.

NU next faces Vermont on Thursday in Burlington at 3 p.m.
