The Northeastern men's basketball team lost to Colorado State, 63-52, in the consolation game of the Hoosier Classic at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. on Friday night.
The Huskies got off to a poor start shooting the ball in the first half and could never recover from their 31-16 halftime deficit. NU connected on just six of 24 attempts from the floor in the first frame of action for a field goal percentage of 25.
Similar to NU's game with tournament host Indiana on Thursday night, the Huskies managed to stick with the Rams for the majority of the second half. Northeastern cut the CSU lead to eight four different times in the second half, with the last coming at the 3:33 mark on a layup from Tyrone Hammick, but could not get any closer.
The Rams then went on an 8-2 run that proved to be too much for the Huskies. Ricky Cranford's four-point play with 43 seconds remaining was too little too late as NU still trailed by 10.
Leading the way for Northeastern was senior Marcus Blossom who tallied 16 points and passed Andre LaFleur (1983-87) for 15th on NU's all-time scorers list.
Dwayne Barnes added 11 points before fouling out and Cranford recorded the game's only double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
The Huskies fall to 1-8 in the loss as CSU improves to 7-4. Next up for NU is Maine on Jan. 2 in Orono at 7:30 p.m.
