Northeastern continued its recent pattern of playing a tight game, but lost down the stretch to Towson, 86-71, in an America East game at the Towson Center on Saturday.
The game was tied at 60 with 8:58 left when the Huskies went into a 3:20 funk. The Tigers scored eight straight points to take the lead for good. During the run, the Huskies were 0-4 from the field, 0-3 at the line and committed three turnovers. NU got back within four, down 71-67 with 4:32 left, but again Towson netted eight in a row for a commanding 79-67 edge.
Towson couldn't miss, shooting over 70 percent from the floor. NU got a lift with the return of Marcus Blossom, who sat out most of the second half in the Huskies' game at Delaware on Thursday with a concussion. He finished with a team-high 18 points. Jean Bain added 17.
NU trailed 30-29 late in the first half, but Towson outscored the Huskies 9-2 the rest of the way for a 39-31 lead at intermission. The Tigers then scored the first six points of the second half for a 45-31 advantage with 18:25 to go. The Huskies made a game of it, however, using a 29-15 surge to tie the game at 60 with 8:58 to go.
It was the Huskies' ninth loss in their past 10 games.
