The Northeastern men's basketball team was defeated 74-68 Tuesday night by the Maine Black Bears at Alfond Arena in Orono.
Maine's Carvell Ammons and NU's Marcus Blossom were the game's top scorers with 24 points apiece. Blossom's 24 points give him 1177 for his career and put him 12th on NU's all-time scoring list. Blossom also added six points, five assists and two steals in the losing effort.
The Huskies went into intermission down by seven as Maine's Tory Cavalieri hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give his team its largest bulge of the half.
Northeastern responded by opening the second frame of action on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 37. The teams battled back and forth until Derrick Jackson scored four straight points for Maine to give the Bears a seven-point lead with 15 seconds remaining.
NU came out of the blocks to start the game stronger than it had in its last two outings at the Hoosier Classic. The Dogs shot 40 percent from the floor and had tallied 30 points at the break.
Senior Tyrone Hammick logged the game's only double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.
With the loss NU drops to 1-9 overall and 0-2 in America East play, while Maine improves to 9-3 on the season and 2-2 in conference action.
The Huskies next will host Drexel on Friday at Solomon Court at 7 p.m.
