PROVIDENCE, RI - Freshman Jean Francois' career-high of 21 points was not enough as the Northeastern men's basketball team was defeated 81-73 Tuesday night by the Ivy League's Brown.
The Bears' Alai Nuualiitia (26) and Earl Hunt (21) combined for 47 of Brown's 81 points in the victory.
The first half was a back and forth battle as the game was knotted at 20 with just over 10 minutes to play. A bucket by Brown's Will Collier at the 9:50 mark gave the Bears a two-point lead that they would build to 10, 42-32, by the break.
NU was out rebounded 18-8 in the first half and shot 46.4 percent from the field, while Brown shot an impressive 66.7 percent from the floor.
The Huskies opened up the second frame of action on a 12-4 run to cut the Brown lead to four, 48-44. Marcus Blossom was the catalyst of that run as he netted six of NU's 12 points, including four free throws. The Bears would respond, however, as they rattled off a 6-0 run to push their lead to 10 once again, 54-44.
NU and Brown would swap buckets for a while until a Jean Bain three cut Brown's lead to six, 68-62, with just over six minutes to play. As the game's theme continued, the Bears answered the Huskies' threat with a 7-2 run to increase their lead to 11, 75-64.
Ricky Cranford finished the game with 17 points, while Bain added 10. The Huskies fell to 4-16 as Brown improved to 7-9 on the season.
Next up for Northeastern is crosstown rival Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. on Commonwealth Avenue.
