BURLINGTON, VT - The Northeastern men's basketball lost to America East foe Vermont 92-83 at Patrick Gymnasium in Burlington.
NU went into the half down 15, 47-32, but responded coming out of the lockerroom with a 21-10 run to cut the Catamounts lead to four, 57-53. Marcus Blossom netted 11 of NU's 21 points during that run, including back-to-back three-pointers.
UVM surged back to increase its lead to nine, 64-55, with 10:38 remaining, but NU managed to chip away at the Cats lead and trailed by just two, 81-79, with 3:03 to go. The Huskies would get no closer, however, as Vermont ended the game on an 11-4 run to give the game its final four nine point margin, 92-83.
Vermont took a 47-32 lead into the break courtesy of 15 points from T.J.Sorrentine. NU was outmatched throughout the first half as Sorrentine and Tony Orciari were connecting from downtown and Matt Sheftic and Trevor Gaines were banging down low.
A fast-paced half saw 18 attempted threes combined by both teams. NU's leading scorers at the break were Ricky Cranford with 11 and Blossom with six. Tyrone Hammick also had a team-high five boards at the break.
For the game, Cranford led NU with 26 points and eight rebounds (six offensive), while Blossom added 22 points and four steals. Sorrentine was the game's leading scorer with 27 points as he shot 8-11 from the floor and 9-12 from the line. NU leads the all-time series 39-19.
The Huskies fall to 6-18 overall and 5-10 in conference play, while Vermont improves to 9-15 on the season and 5-10 in America East.
Next up for Northeastern is Hartford on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Connecticut. The Huskies defeated the Hawks earlier this season 85-80 at Solomon Court.
