The Huskies made the acquaintance of soon-to-be America East rival Albany with a 9-6 win at Friedman Diamond on Wednesday. The Huskies used a five-run fifth inning and home runs from Coley O'Donnell and Mike Wysong to up their record to 6-15. Albany fell to 6-18. Brendan Ryan started on the mound for the Huskies and worked five innings, striking out four and allowing just four hits and two runs, picking up his first win of the season against two losses. Craig Straus worked four-plus innings for Albany, taking the loss.
O'Donnell's homer in the top of the fourth was hit over the Parsons Field press box and left the NU property entirely. It traveled at least 400 feet,landing in a neighbor's front yard and coming to rest under the back stairs.
John Burns entered the game with two on in the ninth and a four-run lead. One of those runners scored on a sacrifice fly, but Burns held on, earning his first career save in five collegiate seasons.
