Hartford scored three unearned runs off Ken Henry in the first inning and made them hold up in a 3-2 win over Northeastern in the first game of an America East doubleheader at Friedman Diamond.
Ron Accabo walked, Matt Marchese doubled and Miguel Marichal walked to load the bases, but Henry had a chance to work out of the first inning jam. But, two runs came home when Cory Parker reached on a throwing error by Joe Corcoran, and a third came across when Ryan Gardner reached on an errant throw by NU third baseman Mike Lomuscio.
NU got an unearned run back in the last of the first when Luke Carlin reached on a dropped fly ball by Marchese and came around to score when Ben Beck drew a bases loaded walk. Brendan Ryan drove in Coley O'Donnell in the third for NU's second run, but the Hawks kept the Husky bats quiet after that.
Marichal, son of baseball Hall of Famer Juan Marichal, pitched the final 3 1/3 innings to save the game for starter and winner Jeff Swedberg. Henry took the loss despite allowing only two hits and striking out eight.
