Northeastern came from behind in game two to defeat Vermont 6-1 and earn a split in an America East doubleheader at Friedman Diamond on Saturday. Vermont won game one 7-6 in eight innings. The Huskies won their first America East game of the season to improve to 1-5 in conference play and 4-14 overall. Vermont now stands 11-7 and 2-4 in conference action.

Matt Cavallaro (2-2) went the distance for the Huskies and allowed just three hits. Vermont led 1-0 until the Huskies got three runs off Trevor Marcotte in the fifth. Mike Wysong started the rally with a walk and Omar Pena then delivered the tying run with a triple. Hernan Guerrero walked and advanced to second on a Jody Corcoran grounder. Mike Lomuscio then drove in the go-ahead run on an infield single to third and Guerrero came around to score when a throw from Vermont third baseman Mike Cole was wild.

NU tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double by Pena, who finished 2-3 in the game with three RBIs.
