Binghamton 94, Northeastern 76

BOSTON, MA – Mike Wright scored 26 points, including six three-pointers in seven attempts, to lead Binghamton to a 94-76 win over Northeastern in an America East men's basketball game at Solomon Court on Saturday.

The Huskies were never in the game, falling behind 22-8 at the outset, 46-33 at the half, and getting no closer than 10 after intermission. Wright made his first five three-pointers, including three in the opening 22-8 run. NU shot just 36.3 percent for the game, 19.2 percent (5-26) from three-point range. Binghamton finished at 54.2 percent from the floor and converted a school-record 33 free throws in 39 attempts.

Binghamton improved to 6-9, 3-2 in conference play, while NU fell to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in America East. Anthony Wright added a career-high 20 points for the Bearcats, Charles Baker netted 11 points and Jeffrey St. Fort had 10. Big man Mike Billings had 11 rebounds, six blocks and five points for Binghamton. Ricky Cranford paced the Huskies with 17 points, while Jamaar Walker had 12 and Jean Bain 11.

Northeastern opened up the second half on a 5-2 run to cut the Binghamton lead to 10, 48-38, with 17:06 remaining. The Bearcats would respond, however, with a 19-8 run to push their lead to a comfortable 21 points, 67-46, with 9:55 to go. The Huskies started the second half like they did the first -- very cold from the field. NU made just three of its first 15 field goal tries of the second half, 1-4 from behind the three-point arc.

NU trimmed the Binghamton lead to 15, 70-55, with 7:15 to go. Tim West was the catalyst of the mini-run as he reeled off another of his unexpected offensive spurts by netting eight points in a stretch of 1:30. The Bearcats would not let up as they increased their lead back out to 22, 78-56, just over a minute later, and cruised to the easy victory. The Bearcats' biggest bulge was 25 after an Andre Hannan layup made it 92-67 with 2:17 to go.

The Huskies missed their first 13 three-point attempts of the game and found themselves down 22-8 with 11:08 on the first-half clock. Through the first nine minutes, NU was just 4-20 from the field, en route to 15-42 field goal shooting (35.7 percent) in the first frame of action. Unlike Northeastern, the Bearcats came out of the blocks on fire. Binghamton netted seven of 10 three-point attempts and shot 53.6 percent (15-28) in the first half. Wright was Binghamton's primary offensive weapon in the first 20 minutes as he tallied 18 points in just 12 minutes on 6-8 field goal shooting with five three-pointers. Leading the way for NU was Cranford with 10 points, while Johnson added nine.

It was the first-ever meeting between Northeastern and Binghamton.
