Boston University 95, Northeastern 88 (OT)

BOSTON, MA – Chaz Carr scored a career-high 36 points, including a layup in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime, leading Boston University to a 95-88 win over Northeastern in an America East game at Solomon Court on Sunday.

NU missed its first nine field goal tries of overtime, while BU made its first four shots to build a comfortable eight-point edge, 87-79, with 1:39 left. The Huskies cut it down to four, 92-88, but got no closer. The Terriers improved to 11-7 overall, 5-1 in America East, and NU dropped to 4-14, 2-5 in the conference.

The Huskies led 77-73 after a driving layup by Jamaar Walker with just 31 seconds left in regulation. But, Rashad Bell (14 points) rebounded the miss of a Carr three-pointer and put it in to make it 77-75 with 22 seconds left. Jean Bain, who had sparked NU with 13 of his 16 points in the second half, was fouled with 12 seconds showing. He missed a pair of free throws, setting the stage for Carr, who drove the lane and made a game-tying layup with two seconds left. NU's Jermaine Hancock had a final fling from beyond halfcourt that did not draw rim and the teams headed to overtime.

Billy Collins added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Terriers. Freshman Aaron Davis had a career-high 23 points and Jesse Dunn matched his career high of 17 to pace the Huskies.

The game was tight throughout the second half with eight ties and seven lead changes. BU trailed by as much as 12 in the first half, but came out strong after intermission. The Terriers erased a 42-36 halftime deficit and took their first lead of the game 51-50 on a Carr three-pointer with 15:05 left. Carr finished 9-13 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the three-point arc. Neither team had a lead of more than four points in the final 15 minutes of regulation.

The Huskies were whistled for three technical fouls, all of which proved costly. The first came with 1:20 left in the first half for having six players on the court (they played with six for 28 seconds). Carr sank two free throws for BU. In the second half, with the Huskies up 72-68 and under three minutes left, Carr was whistled for an offensive foul. But, NU's Tim West bumped him and was called for a T, which produced two more Carr free throws and a lost possession for the Huskies. In OT, Walker called a timeout NU didn't have, which led to another Carr free throw.

Carr's jumper as time expired in the first half cut NU's lead to six, 42-36, at the half. Davis was the half's leading scorer with 15 points, while Carr had 12 in the first frame action. Both teams shot the ball well through the first 20 minutes as BU outshot NU 55.6 percent to 51.9.

Northeastern came out of the blocks ready to play, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead and then extending the edge to 10, up 20-10 with 12:23 left in the first half. BU head coach Dennis Wolff took a 30-second timeout to rally his team and they responded with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 20 with 10:08 to go. With the game tied at 22, NU went on a 17-5 spurt over the next 6:10 to build their largest lead of the game, 39-27 with 2:32 left.

NU set a team record for most three-point attempts, launching 36 (making 11). Davis set the team's individual game mark with 15 three-point attempts (hitting four).

BU now leads the all-time series with NU 63-61.
