Binghamton 81, Northeastern 64

VESTAL, NY - The Northeastern men's basketball team lost to America East foe Binghamton 81-64 on Thursday night at West Gymnasium. With the loss, NU falls to 4-15 on the season and 2-6 in America East play, while Binghamton improves to 7-11 overall and 4-4 in conference action.

Leading the way for NU was freshman Meshak Burke-Bennett with a career-high 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals in 28 minutes played. Senior Ricky Cranford chipped in 13 points, while freshman Antonio Johnson added 11.

The Bearcats were paced by Jeffrey St. Fort's game-high 18 points. Charles Baker (15), Mike Wright (15) and Andrew Hannan (12) were all key contributors for BU as well. Anthony Green scored just five points, but tallied 11 assists and eight rebounds for the Bearcats.

After trailing by just five points at the half, Northeastern cut the Binghamton lead to two, 43-41, courtesy of an Aaron Davis three-pointer with 15:46 remaining. The NU threat, however, would spark a 15-0 BU run that sealed the deal for the Bearcats.

During the decisive run, Binghamton spread the ball around to four different players and beat the Huskies inside and out. Northeastern would follow the BU run with a 7-0 run of its own, to trim the lead to 10, 58-48, with 8:30 to go. But, Binghamton responded yet again with another 7-0 run to put the game out of reach.

The first half was more of a contest than the second half. NU led just twice in the game. Once at 2-0 and later as 9-8 with 14:42 to go in the first frame of action. Binghamton then reeled off a 14-2 run to stretch its lead to 11, 22-11, at 10:07. Both teams would trade hoops for the next few minutes until NU closed the half on a 9-4 spurt to trim the Bearcats' lead to five, 37-32, at intermission.

Next up for Northeastern is another new America East opponent in Albany on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in New York.
