Men's Basketball

Northeastern 104, Suffolk 50

Northeastern head coach Ron Everhart recorded his 100th career win as his Huskies dismantled Div. III Suffolk 104-50 on Tuesday night at Solomon Court. With the victory, NU improves to 1-1 on the season, while Suffolk falls to 1-2.

Everhart was questionable to coach Tuesday's game as he had his appendix removed on Monday evening at Newton Wellesley Hospital. He was cleared to leave the hospital on Tuesday morning and was healthy enough to man the NU sideline by the 7:30 tipoff.

Freshman point guard Jose Juan Barea led four Huskies in double figures with 19 points. Adrian Martinez netted 18, Javorie Wilson had 14 and Cornellius Wright scored 10 on 5-5 shooting off the bench. Tom Carey had a game-high 21 points to lead Suffolk.

The Huskies outscored the Rams 57-19 in the second half. Martinez had 14 of his 18 points after intermission.

The win was Northeastern's first of the season and snapped a 14-game losing streak in the month of November. NU's last win in the month was on Nov. 27, 1998 when the Huskies downed La Salle 92-85. The last time Northeastern recorded a win at home in November was back on Nov. 30, 1993 as NU defeated Div. III UMass-Boston 93-71.

Suffolk jumped out to an early 7-4 lead with 17:04 on the first-half clock, but Northeastern went on a 6-2 run to take the lead, 10-9, at 14:03 and never looked back. The Huskies dominated the rest of the first half and took a 16-point lead to intermission, 47-31.

NU outshot Suffolk 55.3 percent to 32.4 percent in the first frame of action, paced by Wilson's 11 points on 4-7 shooting at the break. Barea had nine points and five assists in the first 20 minutes of play, while Robinson had eight points and five boards.

Carey was the high scorer of the first half with 17 points for the Rams. Suffolk did attempt nine free throws in the first half, compared to none for NU, but connected on just five.

Next up NU faces Fordham on Saturday at 6 p.m. Saturday's game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., but has been changed to 6 p.m. due to the Northeastern football game at 12:30 p.m. Both the men's basketball and football games are home and versus Fordham.
