Five Huskies scored in double figures as the Northeastern men's basketball team defeated Fordham 99-75 on Saturday night at Solomon Court. Leading the way for NU was sophomore Aaron Davis (21 points), while freshman Jose Juan Barea (20 points, six assists) was also instrumental in the victory.
Other Husky contributors were Sylbrin Robinson with NU's only double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds), Jesse Dunn (14 points) and Javorie Wilson (13 points).
The Rams were paced by 18 points from Glenn Batemon, while Michael Haynes added 16 points and 13 rebounds. Fordham falls to 1-3 on the season with the loss and NU improves to 2-1 overall.
Fordham jumped out to an early 11-5 lead at 14:34 before Northeastern went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 12-11. The Rams silenced the NU run with a Drew Williamson jumper at 12:36 to take its final lead of the game at 13-12. The Huskies led for the final 32 minutes of play behind solid defense and hot shooting.
Northeastern shot an impressive 57.6 percent (19-33) in the first frame of action and outrebounded the Rams 17-14. NU took a 53-39 lead to the half.
NU came out on fire again in the second half as the Huskies pushed their lead to a game-high 25 points, 72-47, with 11:18 to go. The Rams chipped away to cut the NU lead to 15, 77-62, with 6:34 remaining, but would get no closer.
The final minutes of the game became very physical on both sides of the ball as NU's Aaron Davis and Fordham's Mark Jarrell-Wright both received technical fouls. With just 38 seconds remaining in the game, Ram head coach Bob Hill got ejected.
Next up for the Huskies is a trip to New Mexico on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
