STONY BROOK, NY - The Northeastern men's basketball team was defeated 85-70 by Stony Brook at the Sports Complex in Stony Brook, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.
Q Randall led NU with a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds, while Ricky Cranford chipped in with 16 points. JonPaul Kobryn was the game's leading scorer, pacing Stony Brok with 28 points on 14-16 shooting. D.J. Munir filled the stat sheet in all categories, scoring 13 points with 14 assists, eight steals, seven rebounds and nine turnovers.
The Huskies trailed by just two, 37-35, at the half before the Seawolves reeled off a 31-12 run to start the second half. A Kobryn layup at 8:50 capped Stony Brook's impressive run. After the Seawolves great start to the second frame of action, NU was never really in the game again.
Northeastern trimmed the SBU lead to 10, 73-63, with 5:56 remaining, but would get no closer the rest of the way.
Stony Brook put on an offensive clinic as the team shot an impressive 60.8 percent from the field, compared to NU's shooting of 39.3 percent.
With the loss, NU falls to 6-20 on the season, 4-11 in America East action, while Stony Brook improves to 5-20 overall, 4-10 in league play. Next up for Northeastern is its final regular season game of the year against Maine on Feb. 21. NU and the Black Bears tip off at 7:30 p.m.
