Boston University 2, Northeastern 1

The Northeastern women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 double overtime decision to cross-town conference rival Boston University on Thursday afternoon at Parsons Field.

Senior defender Emily Dionne gave the Terriers the win in the 107th minute off a corner kick from sophomore Meghann Cook, lofting a shot over the head of junior goalkeeper Cynthia Slowik from 30 yards out.

The loss ends an eight-game home winning streak for Northeastern, which falls to 11-6 overall and 5-3 in America East play. The Huskies, which have clinched a playoff berth, now drop to fourth place in the league with one game remaining. BU improves to 10-5-4 overall and 6-1-1 in the conference, and currently stands in first place in the America East.

In the game, the Terriers were strong out of the gate, forcing the Northeastern defense to scramble early on. BU would strike first though, scoring its first goal just under ten minutes into regulation. All alone 25 yards out, sophomore midfielder Brooke Bingham sent a blast past the diving Slowik to give the Terriers a one-goal advantage.

Boston continued to control the ball throughout much of the first half, making a number of good runs and getting a few great scoring chances. The Terriers came up with eight shots in the period, keeping Slowik on her toes and forcing her to make six saves.

The Huskies continued to pressure when they could in the half, and it finally paid off, as junior co-captain Liz Dyjak converted on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box to knot the game, 1-1, with 3:46 remaining in the first.

BU came out strong again after the break, getting most of the good scoring chances through 25 minutes of play. The Huskies remained tough, and found some life in their own offense, getting a few solid opportunities and making Terrier goalkeeper Jessica Clinton work to keep the score even.

The game remained fast-paced down the stretch, as Northeastern and BU played evenly through the rest of regulation and the first overtime period. The corner kick in the final minutes of the game gave the Terriers the final edge.

BU outshot the NU, 16-11. Slowik posted nine saves in just her fourth loss of the season, while Clinton recorded four stops to pick up her 10th win of the year.

The Huskies return to the field for their final regular season game of the year when they travel to face America East newcomer UMBC on Sunday at 1 p.m. Northeastern playoff spot will be determined following this weekend's conference matchups.
