Northeastern fell to Maine in the opening game of a doubleheader, 4-3 on Saturday in Orono.
Maine's Aaron Izaryk hit a two-out, bases loaded double to score three runs for the Black Bears in the second inning. However, Northeastern scored three runs to tie the game in the third inning, starting with Omar Pena scoring on a single to centerfield by Brad Czarnowski. Another RBI single by Arman Sidhu scored Czarnowski for the second run of the inning. The tying run came across the plate when Tim Bush grounded out to the shortstop to score Sidhu.
The game remained at 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Joe Drapeau led off with a single and advanced to second on a bad throw. Northeastern intentionally walked Alain Picard hoping for a chance to turn a double play. However, Greg Creek stepped to the plate and hit a single through the left side and Drapeau beat the throw home for the 4-3 win.
Greg Norton picked up the win on the mound and is now 4-1 on the season, while Justin Hedrick went the distance for NU, allowing four runs, all earned, in his first loss of the season. Hedrick 3-1) had only allowed six earned runs in his first 24.1 innings pitched this season.
