Northeastern blanked Pace 8-0 to win game two and sweep a doubleheader against non-conference opponent Pace at Friedman Diamond on Saturday.
Brendan Ryan (3-3) went the distance for the Huskies to win his third straight decision. Since getting charged with nine earned runs in a two-inning start at Maine on April 19, Ryan has allowed just two earned runs in his last 21 innings, throwing three straight complete games, including a pair of shutouts. Pace managed just four hits off Ryan and never moved a runner past second base. The Huskies helped out their senior righty by turning three double plays.
The Huskies jumped on Pace starter Brad Jones for four runs in the first inning with two outs. Omar Pena started the uprising by singling up the middle. After Pena stole second, Tim Bush doubled to right center to drive in the only run NU would need. Jeff Heriot followed with an RBI single and Jeff Maher later delivered a two-run single to score Heriot and Paul Kozlowski, who also singled.
NU tacked on three more in the fourth as Jonathan Huff replaced Jones on the mound for the Setters. Arman Sidhu led off with a walk, and the bases quickly loaded after a Brad Czarnowski hit and a walk by Chris Emanuele. Pena knocked in Sidhu with a sacrifice fly. With two outs, Czarnowski and Emanuele pulled off a double steal and Kozlowski brought them both home with a single up the middle for a 7-0 edge.
Kozlowski finished the twinbill 4-6, while Pena was 5-8. Bush was 4-8 with four RBIs, the last of which drove home Czarnowski in the sixth inning of game two for the final run of the day.
NU and Pace meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
