The Northeastern women's soccer ended a two-game scoring drought with six goals in Wednesday afternoon's matchup, knocking off Iona, 6-1, at Parsons Field.
The Huskies, who controlled play for most of the 90 minutes of action, improved to 2-2 on the season while the Gaels fell to 0-3-1.
Junior Jen North led the way for the Huskies, picking up her second and third goals of the season, including the game-winner in the 32nd minute. North also opened up the scoring just 23 seconds into the game, redirecting a pass from freshman Kristen Blake past Iona goalkeeper Ticiana DiCarlo.
Northeastern came out hungrier in the second half, getting a goal just 3:54 into the second half from junior Liz Dyjak, who picked up her first goal of the season on a pass from North, giving the Huskies a 3-0 lead.
In the 64th minute, Blake would also add her first collegiate goal on a blast over the Gaels' goalkeeper from 30 yards out. Northeastern would get two more goals over the next eight minutes of play from sophomore Jess Pfeifer and redshirt freshman Kristin Kowalik, both their first on the season, giving the Huskies a commanding 6-0 lead.
Iona picked up a goal on its first shot of the game, when freshman Sherry Black put one past NU keeper Cynthia Slowik for her first collegiate goal on a pass from Megan Texiera at 73:48. The Huskies outshot the Gaels, 28-3, putting 15 shots on goal in the match. Slowik made one save in the win, while DiCarlo posted nine.
Northeastern is off until next Wednesday, when they travel to Brown for a game at 7 p.m.
