Binghamton 80, Northeastern 62

Binghamton came into Solomon Court and shot the lights out, soundly defeating Northeastern, 80-62, in front of 1,044 rowdy fans Wednesday night.

The Huskies, who suffered their first home loss of the season, were not able to overcome the Bearcats' 19-point halftime lead, getting only as close as 69-53 with 6:14 left.

NU shot just 35 percent (24-for-68) from the floor, its second lowest mark of the season, and 20 percent (5-for-25) from three-point range.

Meanwhile, Binghamton, led by 7'0 center Nick Billings' double-double, shot 60 percent (28-of-47) for the game. Billings was a dominant force in the paint, scoring 25 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and recording seven blocks. He shot 9-for-11 from the field and was 7-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Jose Juan Barea led the Huskies with 18 points, but he was cold from behind the arc, hitting only two of nine shots. Javorie Wilson chipped in 13 points and Marcus Barnes added 10.

Billings scored the game's first basket on an uncontested dunk, and Binghamton (7-11, 3-4) didn't let up, storming out to a 23-4 lead.

Binghamton widened its lead to 31-10 with 10:24 left in the first. The Bearcats hit 11 of their first 12 shots from the field, including all five attempts from three-point land. As a result, the Huskies didn't grab their first rebound until 11:07 had come off the clock and didn't record a defensive rebound until 4:14 left in the half.

Northeastern (11-7, 5-2) scored the next seven points to cut it to 31-17 with 8:53 remaining, but the Bearcats were relentless, continuing to hit their shots while the Husky offense stalled.

Binghamton, which took a 47-28 lead into the break, shot 17-for-23 (74 percent) from the field and 6-for-9 from downtown in the first half, while the Huskies could only muster 10 field goals on 31 attempts (32 percent).

Binghamton continued its sizzling shooting to start the second, building a 22-point lead (59-37), its biggest of the game, with 15:56 remaining. The Bearcats cruised to the win despite turning the ball over 21 times.

The Bearcats' Troy Hailey added 17 points and seven assists while Brandon Carter scored 16.

The Huskies' next game is Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3:30 p.m., when they host Boston University at Matthews Arena.
