The Huskies completed a season sweep of New Hampshire with a 76-69 win Saturday afternoon in front of 620 fans at Solomon Court.
NU, which led the game for all but 44 seconds, got a scare in the final minutes as UNH cut the lead to five with just under a minute left. However, Marcus Barnes knocked down his second three-pointer of the day with 42 seconds left to make it 71-63.
UNH (5-15, 1-9) then turned the ball over, and Jose Juan Barea, who had nine assists and a season-high six rebounds, found Javorie Wilson, who dunked it to give the Huskies a 10-point lead.
UNH's Marcus Bullock tried to bring his team back with a three, but Sylbrin Robinson followed with a three-point play to ice the game.
NU (13-8, 7-3) was paced by Barea's game-high 21 points. Javorie Wilson (19 points, career-high-tying 11 rebounds) and Sylbrin Robinson (10 points, 11 rebounds) each posted double-doubles. For Barea, it was the seventh time in the last nine games he's scored 20 or more points.
Bullock, who took every one of his shots from behind the arc, led the Wildcats with 21 points on 7-for-15 shooting. Blagov Janev scored 17 to lead a UNH bench that scored 30 of the team's 69 points.
UNH was victimized by its own mistakes, committing 17 turnovers which led to 25 Husky points.
The Huskies started the game hot, going on a 18-5 run after six minutes of play. However, the Wildcats came back with a 10-0 run to cut the Husky lead to three.
Northeastern responded as D'wan Youmans took an alley-oop pass from Barea and dunked it to break the UNH run. Barea then hit a three to make it an eight-point lead, at 23-15.
The game then turned into a mini three-point competition as the the two teams traded long-distance jumpers. Bullock hit a three, which was followed by Barnes knocking down a trey. Bullock again scored from three-point range, making it a 26-21 game.
The two teams continued to trade baskets, and UNH would eventually tie it at 38-38 on Janev's three-pointer with 2:43 left in the half. Janev scored 15 first-half points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-7 from downtown.
The Huskies responded with a Barea basket, three Jesse Dunn free throws and a Bennet Davis layup with one second left to take a 45-39 lead into the half.
The Huskies will head to New York to take on Stony Brook Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
