Boston University 82, Northeastern 68

Northeastern let a 10-point halftime lead slip away as Boston University out-scored the Huskies 54-30 in the second half to claim an 82-68 win Sunday afternoon in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,738 fans at Case Gymnasium.

NU (17-10, 11-5) took a 40-28 lead on a Bennet Davis layup 28 seconds into the second half, but BU scored the next 13 points to go up one, 41-40. Shaun Wynn's dunk at 15:48 of the second gave BU its first lead since the 12:12 mark of the first half.

Davis put Northeastern up 49-48 with a free throw at 11:57, but BU proceeded to go on an 11-0 run, punctuated by a Chaz Carr three-pointer, to grab a 59-49 advantage with 9:36 left.

Two Jose Juan Barea free throws at 5:13 closed the Huskies within four, at 63-59, but BU put the game away by scoring nine of the next 11 points. Jason Grochowalski sunk two free throws and Kevin Gardner made a put-back to give BU a 67-59 lead.

After Sylbrin Robinson made two from the line, Matt Turner stuck a jumper and Grochowalski nailed a three from the top of the key to push the Terrier lead to 11, at 72-61, with 2:19 left to play.

BU (21-4, 15-1) closed the game on a 19-9 run, going 12-for-12 from the line in that stretch.

Barea left the game with 1:09 to go after committing his fifth foul. Robinson fouled out with 28 seconds remaining.

Northeastern shot just a season-low 22.6 percent (7-for-31) from the field in the second half, including 19 percent (3-for-16) from three-point range. The Huskies also hurt themselves by committing 24 turnovers, one short of their season high.

After BU's Ryan Butt scored the first basket of the game, Northeastern went on an 11-0 run, which included three-pointers by Javorie Wilson, Barea and Marcus Barnes.

Boston University answered with an 13-3 run to go up one, 15-14. Butt hit a pair of threes in the stretch.

NU held the Terriers scoreless for a period of 3:30 and was able to push its lead to 18-15 on a Robinson layup with 9:05 left, but Turner's three with 7:31 remaining in the half tied it at 20-20.

Northeastern scored the next 12 points to take a 32-20 lead and closed the half on an 18-8 run. Barnes had nine points in that stretch, six coming from the free-throw line.

Barea led four Huskies in double figures with 16 points, but he was just 3-for-15 from the floor. He added eight rebounds and seven assists. Barnes had 15, Wilson 14 and Robinson 10, to go along with 12 rebounds.

Grochowalski led four Terriers in double figures with a season-high 21 points. Carr netted 19, Butt 12 and Turner 11.
